By 1984, Nike decided to discontinue the Air Force 1 due to declining sales. But the shoe had already gained a devoted following, particularly in Baltimore, where local retailers refused to let it fade away. They lobbied Nike to bring it back, and by 1986, the Air Force 1 was reintroduced in three classic colorways: white/white, white/blue, and white/red (the now-iconic "Color of the Month" series). This marked the beginning of its transformation from a basketball shoe to a streetwear staple.
